About Us

Steeped in local history, the 150 year old Royal Mail Hotel is said to have resided proudly on the beautiful, tree lined street of Brisbane Terrace Goodna since the 1860’s. Once the main highway between Ipswich and Brisbane, it was one of only a handful of stopping points for the Cobb and Co coaches travelling to and from Brisbane.

Some of the Jacaranda trees surrounding the hotel were planted during the 1930’s Great Depression. They make for a popular attraction with visitors during the month of October each year when the trees are in full bloom and the locals celebrate the annual Jacaranda Festival.

Proprietor Andrew Café’s love of music is the heart and soul of The Royal Mail. It’s the only venue in Australia to be awarded “The Keeping the Blues Alive Award” by The Blues Foundation in Memphis Tennessee! It’s famous as an essential stopping off point for touring Blues n Roots musicians! , together with his loyal patrons and staff have now established the ‘Mail nationwide as one of the best live Blues n Roots venues in Australia.

So beloved is the hotel, artists and organisations nationwide raised funds to aid in its recovery from the recent 2011 floods. In fact, The Royal Mail features the on the cover of ‘Hard Rain’ an album of original tracks donated by some of Australia’s best loved Blues artists.

Our outdoor beer garden has a relaxed atmosphere where you can shoot a game of pool, enjoy the sunshine and catch up with friends and family. The service is warm, the drinks are cold and the food is delicious! You won’t miss out on the great live music either as it’s easily heard from anywhere on the premises.

In 1974 the flood water covered the beer garden and rose to the first floor but trading continued on the top verandas and became the central meeting point for local residents at that time. Having just survived its 6th major flood ‘The Mail’, as it is affectionately known locally, became the place where the equally devastated locals came to console and support each other in their road to recovery. Some historical records state that many political disputes were settled here. Relax in our historic beer garden and experience the same feeling of community today.

There’s a lot of history embedded in the old timber walls of the pub – and a lot of music! Almost 35 years of hosting live music every week! Andrew says that The Royal Mail has made it it’s mission to foster a strong local music scene and provide a band-friendly live music venue – “It’s our point of difference”. He’s proud to sponsor the Blues Association of South East Queensland and many bands have performed their first gig under its corrugated iron roof. Check our Events Calendar to see what’s on!

Many, many thanks go out to all of the artists, visitors, locals, friends and staff who make the Royal Mail what it is – a good old fashioned Aussie pub!
